Winter Benefit Concert

This Saturday, February 1, we will hold our annual Winter Benefit Concert. The performances will be between 3 pm and 5 pm at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Your ticket into this concert is one non-perishable food item, to be sent to GRIN. (Gahanna Residents In Need)

We hope you can join us. GRIN is our charity of choice – we’ve had a few events to help them in the last year. This concert’s performers are chosen by teacher invitation only, but everyone is welcome to enjoy the music.

How About That Didgeridoo?

A good friend of mine started talking about a didgeridoo, and about playing it in the neighborhood at sunrise. The fun of this idea was so much that I ended up buying one for my friend.

So I asked for a lesson from Michelle, and she thought that was a joke. I ended up unfolding the story about the friend with the didgeridoo. She referenced the front page of the website that specifically mentions we don’t do didgeridoo lessons at MTMS.

Michelle has a soft spot for music. I asked not too far before the anniversary open house, and last Monday I had a didgeridoo lesson. Michelle’s explanation hinged around my past experience with the trumpet. While I practiced making a sound, Michelle found a video that showed so many more things I could do with a didgeridoo.

Thanks, Michelle, for giving me more life goals! (Link leads to the great video she found in my lesson.)

Our 15th Anniversary Open House Success

Last Saturday, Michelle Tuesday Music School celebrated our 15th anniversary with an open house. Thank you to our many guests and performers who helped make this day special – and welcome to our new students and families.

We can’t contain our excitement. It’s a great day!

Can’t wait to see you next time. We love the music.

January Theme: American Folk Revival

Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Peter, Paul, and Mary are a few of the artists in this playlist.

While the roots of the American Folk Music Revival started in the 1930s and 1940s, many of the artists we’ve heard of followed The Kingston Trio. They topped the charts in 1958 and led to the creation of the Folk Music Category in 1959.

The American Folk Music Revival and the 1960s civil protests became intertwined, and that brought about changes in the American culture. Several artists marched on Washington with Martin Luther King, Jr. for his “I have a dream” speech. These included the artists listed above, plus Odetta and Harry Belafonte.

Where would we be without the American Folk Music Revival? Do you think we need another version for the 2020s?

Snow Day!

Due to inclement weather, all lessons at Michelle Tuesday Music School will be virtual or rescheduled today, Monday, January 6th, 2025.

  • Training for virtual lessons is available upon request.
  • If we don’t hear from you, we’ll bank a makeup, which you may schedule at your convenience. Banked makeups on your account expire a year after the absence or upon the student’s withdrawal from music lessons.

Stay safe, break out the sleds, and put on a crock of hot cocoa!
